Observing Wild Towels

A telephoto camera captures a sky-blue towel creature sleeping as it hangs from a rod. It won't go into the hamper while wet, it hops over to the wash only with other towels, and it avoids its natural enemy with glowing eyes in the dark, “fabric softener.” After the wash it shakes itself off like a wet dog until its pile puffs up twice as big, dries completely in the shade, then rests standing up like a book — “thick cotton · hanging loop” as seen on a field guide card, and into the cart.
