Today's Flowers

Still-life cinema of milky plaster walls, celadon-tinted water and apricot dahlias. Stems that look offset at the water's surface, diagonal cuts underwater and rising bubbles, a spiral bouquet turning as it gathers one stem at a time, cream paper and terracotta ribbon — as the blue-gray dawn light turns to late-afternoon gold, the bouquet leaves and only the empty vase remains.
