The Order in Which the Corner Cake Shop Wakes Up

The navy dawn shop window reflects the sleeping alley and the moon, and the lights come on first in the kitchen at the back of the shop. The pendant lamps switch on one after another, the dough rises in the oven, and as day breaks the display case fills one shelf at a time. When the door bell rings, the point of view moves to the window seat inside the glass, and the focus that had settled on a single slice of cake shifts to the alley waking up beyond the window. The cat that was sleeping on the wall at dawn is now up, tilting its head toward the window.
