Is a Tomato a Fruit?
The gavel goes "Bang!" and the tomato in the defendant's seat jumps — "A vegetable?!" Professor Magnifying Glass shines a lens inside for Hint 1: "It has seeds!" The flower swells into a fruit for Hint 2: "It grows from a flower!" The "Fruit" stamp thumps down, and cucumber, eggplant, squash and bell pepper all get a ✓ in a row. Then the music cuts out and Judge Gavel rules "Vegetable!" — the 1893 U.S. Supreme Court, over a tax dispute, because it's served as part of a meal, not as dessert. Two right answers: science says fruit, the law says vegetable.
