How This Shine Comes to Be
A giant finger lands with a soft “poof” on a lilac towel, and a tiny three-person crew in hard hats rushes out at the whistle. Taking the cherry color chosen from a wall of color tips, they file — swish, swish — gently tend the cuticles, apply a clear base and cure under the lamp (in sunglasses, on a sunbed), two coats of cherry, and a top coat so shiny a worker slips. A single drop of oil cuts the ribbon, and as the camera pulls back — the customer spent the hour relaxing over tea, and the shine has arrived at her fingertips.
