Reverse Charge
On the first frame a plug clicks in and a lightning badge flips over, and 11 yellow cells of the life battery travel down the cable into a blindfolded phone. A big “-11 years” is stamped on, followed by a sticker: “The phone charges, I drain.” In the next five DMs, the cable tangles itself to give its verdicts. 4 hours 30 minutes a day is O; “just a few months over a lifetime” is X (over 60 years it adds up to 11 years); “it's nothing once you subtract sleep and work” is also X. For the questions about friends, family and books, a “?” lights up, and the answer is handed off as being inside your own phone. The phone hides, covering the screen with its arms, but when the switch clicks on, “?? hours ?? minutes” rolls by. When O lights up on the last DM, the plug pops out with a “pop,” and the music blacks out for 0.45 seconds before coming back. The sheepish phone returns one light orb (+30 minutes).
