A Reply Left Standing at the Door

A friend's speech bubble pops through the mail slot, and a “Read” light switches on on the sign outside the door. A teddy bear tosses the bubble onto the sofa and, “to do it properly later,” stitches together a giant “Perfect Reply” scroll, while the rabbit outside stands in the rain, its ears drooping one notch at a time as the red thread connecting them frays. When it's finally finished and the door opens — “empty…” — the moment the thread snaps: “Rewind!” The bear, now a pro, flips a 30-second hourglass and sends a single note: “Busy right now / I'll text you tonight.” The rabbit's ears spring back up, and the thread gets stitched back together.
