The Order in Which the Wall Awakens

At dawn, a single work light clicks on in an empty climbing gym, and chalk dust floats up in the beam. First the brush, second the route, third the door, fourth the hand — brushing off yesterday's handprints, tightening new apricot-colored holds, morning light settling across the mats, and the wall awakens when chalk blooms from the first fingertips. After the lights go out one by one at night, the next dawn, in the same spot, a different teal route hangs.
