Advanced mode is a professional screen that adds 5 workspaces (Edit · Color · Audio · Captions · Check) to the Intermediate timeline. Color grading and scopes, the mixer and loudness matching, masks, blend modes and adjustment layers, keyframe graphs, A/B comparison and quality checks — all in one place. In this mode, some names switch to professional terms (e.g. Make MP4 → Export (render), Check → Lint (rule check), Blend modes, Ducking (sidechain), Loudness (LUFS)).
Workspaces
| Tab | What you see | Shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Edit | Timeline, preview, properties (the Intermediate screen + advanced features) | Alt+Shift+1 |
| Color | Scopes + grading cards (Wheels · Basic · Curves · Looks · Effects) + a compact timeline | Alt+Shift+2 |
| Audio | Timeline + mixer (channel strips · master · ducking) | Alt+Shift+3 |
| Captions | Caption list (start · end · sentence · highlight) | Alt+Shift+4 |
| Check | Lint list + “Thorough review” | Alt+Shift+5 |
Color — color grading
Set the grading target to “Whole video” or “Selected item”, then adjust with the cards.
- Wheels — color and brightness for Shadows / Midtones / Highlights / Global
- Basic — Exposure · Contrast · Brightness · Saturation · Temperature · Tint · Pivot · Vibrance · Highlights · Shadows
- Curves — Master · Red · Green · Blue, Hue vs Saturation · Hue vs Hue, Luma vs Saturation (up to 16 points)
- Looks — LUTs (Warm · Cool · Film · B&W · Vivid · Pastel · Vintage) and LUT intensity. Stack up to 3 with + Add LUT, and use your own LUT (2MB) with Upload .cube.
- Effects (whole video) — Vignette · Grain · Bloom · Color fringing
- Code colors (code-motion videos) — Override the colors used by the code / Use code value
Use Copy grade · Paste grade · Reset grade at the top to move grades between scenes, and Before/after split to split the preview in half and compare the image before and after grading (in the preview only). Every value has a ◆ for keyframes and a 〰 that opens the graph editor.
Scopes
Use the scope tabs Waveform · RGB · Vector · Histogram to see how brightness and color are distributed. The Skin line on the vectorscope shows the direction where human skin tones should fall.
Audio — mixer and loudness
- Channel strips (Video · Voice · Music · Sound effects): Mute · Solo · Fader · Pan, EQ (Low 120Hz · Mid 1kHz · High 8kHz · Mid width), Comp (Light · Voice · Heavy + Threshold · Ratio · Attack · Release · Makeup · Knee)
- Voice clarity on the voice strip, Lower during speech on the music strip
- Master: master volume, limiter ceiling (dBTP), target loudness (LUFS). Match −14 LUFS brings everything to the YouTube / Instagram standard (−14 LUFS, −1.5 dBTP) in one click. During playback, momentary, short-term and integrated LUFS and max dBTP are shown in real time.
- Ducking (lower music during speech): on/off, reduction amount −6/−10/−15dB, attack and release times
Captions workspace
Shows the caption list in a large view. Here you can turn captions on, find and replace, set the highlight color and characters per line, rebuild from voice, adjust start and end by ±0.1 seconds, adjust word boundaries, and hide captions. Change the caption look in the captions track properties (Impact · Pill · Pop · Karaoke · Minimal · Box / Line · Chunk · Single word), and get a caption file (SRT) along with the video from the export dialog.
Check — Lint and Thorough review
Lint (rule check) lists issues such as text overlapping an overlay zone, text that's too small, or legal notices being covered, as Error · Warning · Info. Each item offers Go to · Fix · Ignore (with a reason of up to 80 characters); once you've fixed everything, click Re-check. Rules related to legal notices can't be ignored.
Thorough review gathers 12 frames into a single image, and the editing assistant finds places where text is covered or hard to read (about 1 minute, uses 1 request). Results come back as Must fix · Please check · FYI, and Fix everything fixable fixes them all at once.
Keyframe graph editor
Click 〰 Graph in the timeline toolbar (or the 〰 next to a value) to see the change between keyframes as a curve. You get Value / Speed views, interpolation (Linear · Bezier · Auto · Hold · Spring), presets (Default · Ease in · Ease out · Ease in-out · Bounce; Smooth · Snappy · Bouncy · Heavy), spring damping · stiffness · mass · overshoot, copying and pasting curves, and Fit (F). Turn on ● Auto key, and a keyframe is set automatically whenever you change a value. ◆ Keys expands all keyframe rows.
Masks · blending · adjustment layers
Masks
Under Mask in the properties of a photo or video item, use + Rectangle · + Ellipse · + Pen to keep only the part you want visible. Stack up to 4 masks and set how they combine (Add · Subtract · Intersect), opacity, expansion, feather and invert. Use Edit on canvas to drag the shape in the preview, and ◆ Keyframe this mask to animate it. Track matte uses another track as the mask (Alpha · Luma).
Blend modes (17)
Blend in the properties of photo and video items: Normal · Multiply · Screen · Overlay · Darken · Lighten · Color Dodge · Color Burn · Hard Light · Soft Light · Difference · Exclusion · Hue · Saturation · Color · Luminosity · Add (only 4 in Intermediate).
Adjustment layers
Add an Adjustment layer from Library Effects → Screen to change “the color of everything beneath it at once.” It can't be placed over sections where a legal notice is visible.
A/B compare · markers and chapters
On the Compare tab on the right, compare your current edit with the Published version, Before auto-edit, a Snapshot or a Saved version. Views: Toggle · Split · Difference · Side by side; hold \ to see A. Use Snapshot current state to keep a reference point, and Revert this item to A to roll back individual items.
Markers tab: set markers with M (or +Marker) and set their type to Marker / Chapter. Copy YouTube chapters, download chapter text, download CSV or caption CSV. YouTube chapters must start at 0:00, with at least 3 chapters spaced 10 seconds or more apart. Alt+drag creates a range marker.
Precision editing tools
| Tool · key | Action |
|---|---|
V Select · B Ripple | Standard selection / edit while pulling up everything after |
R Roll | Move only the boundary between two clips |
Y Slip | Keep the length and shift only the portion of the source being used |
U Slide | Move a clip while the neighboring clips' lengths fill in around it |
T Time entry | Jump precisely with +5 (5 frames) · -1s · 369f · T.s3+0.3 (start of scene 3 + 0.3 seconds) |
J K L | Reverse · Stop · Forward (faster with each press), I/O range in/out |
Ctrl+G / Ctrl+Shift+G | Group selected items / Ungroup (Alt+click to pick just one) |
Right-click a property → Expose as Beginner card to surface that value as a card in Beginner mode; 🔒 Lock makes it editable only in Developer mode. Use + Add behavior on the Animation tab to attach Wiggle · Loop · Follow behaviors.
Style match (Advanced)
In the Color workspace, go to the Style panel → Style match… to learn the editing rhythm, color and caption feel of a reference video (a YouTube URL or an upload). In Advanced, you can apply just part of the result — Captions only · Color only · Rhythm only — and see a Measurements table. It can be run 3 times per hour, and each run uses 3 editing assistant requests.
Advanced effects
Effects in the library that are visible only in Advanced: Neon floor, HUD scan, Scanlines, Hit stop, Bulge in, Flare, Edge glow, Shockwave ring, Glitter, Speed lines, Adjustment layer, Motion blur, RGB split, Zoom blur. The Hangul assembly option of the Typewriter text effect makes Korean characters appear as if being assembled from their individual letters (jamo), one at a time, and there are also path effects (Orbit · Zigzag · Burst · Dance · Conveyor), Diagram and curved arrows.
