Beginner Mode — Editing with Cards

Change text, voice, music and color with cards — or just ask for edits in plain words

Beginner mode shows your video split into cards. The on-screen text, voice, music and colors each get their own card, and when you click Change on a card and edit it, the preview on the right updates instantly. No timeline knowledge needed. The screenshots below were taken from the Somssii Shorts “How Do You Cut 8 Hours of Work?” (8시간 일, 어떻게 줄여요?), “How This Shine Came to Be” (이 광택이 오기까지) and “Cafe Ieum — An Hour Spent There” (카페 이음 — 그곳에서 보내는 한 시간) (code-motion videos), and KTV's “Central Government Building Renovation” (중앙청 보수공사) (a footage-edit video).

Screen layout

Beginner screen — numbers match the list below
  1. Overlay zones — red dotted lines on the preview show where the buttons and text of YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok and Naver Clip cover the video. They aren't included in the video.
  2. Scene strip — Scene 1 … End. Click a scene to jump to it and scroll to its cards.
  3. Script — shows the spoken words, word by word. Click a word to jump to where it's spoken; long-press (or right-click) it, or use Word effect, to add a highlight, sparkle or number effect.
  4. Tabs — Change · Style · Edit by asking · Auto · Match · Export.
  5. Next steps / Add — shortcuts to Add captions, To fix and Make MP4, plus adding text, stickers and photos.
  6. Cards — text and voice cards for each scene, and below them “Whole video” (background music, color, fonts).
  7. Preview — play, step 1 frame, ⚙ view settings.
  8. Make MP4 — click when you're done to create the new video.

1. Changing on-screen text (big text · badges)

  1. Use the scene strip or the script to go to where the text you want to change appears. You'll see that scene's Big text or Badge card.
  2. Click Change on the card to open the input field; the preview jumps to the moment the text is visible.
  3. Type the new text and click outside the field — the preview updates right away. Text wrapped in [ ] appears in the highlight color.
  4. Size (Small · Medium · Large), Color and Hide are on the same card. When you're finished, click Done.

Some videos have no big text or badge cards. In those videos the on-screen text is drawn as part of the graphics, so you edit the text in the code in Developer mode.

If you see Same text in {n} places — they change together, the same text appears in several scenes. To change just one of them, click Change only here. If the text length changes a lot and the shape of the text box changes, the editor automatically switches it to editable text for you.

2. Re-recording the voice (narration)

Videos with narration have a Voice 1, 2, 3… card for each sentence.

  1. On the card, click Change → edit the Sentence.
  2. Choose a Voice (30 options — e.g. a warm female voice) and a Tone (Warm · Bright · Calm · Fast · Crisp).
  3. Click Re-record, and the new recording arrives in 2–6 minutes. You can keep working on other things while you wait.
  4. Compare with ▶ Original · ▶ New recording; if you don't like it, click Revert.
Voice card — sentence, voice, tone, Re-record

You can make new recordings for up to 20 sentences per hour.

3. Background music — volume and replacing it

On the Background music card under “Whole video”, adjust the Volume (0–150%), and turn on Lower music during speech to have the music dip automatically whenever the voice plays. Use Change to upload your own music file, or listen to music from other videos with ▶ Listen and pick Use this music; to go back, click Back to original music.

4. Changing colors (code-motion videos)

In videos drawn with code, the Color card holds the 6 main colors of the whole video (e.g. accent, ink, paper). Pick a color or enter a #RRGGBB code, and every scene using that color changes together. As the note “Some colors are fixed in the graphics” suggests, colors fixed inside the graphics may not change.

5. Changing fonts

On the Font card, for each font used in the video, choose another font “Instead of ○○” (Pretendard, Black Han Sans, Paperlogy, Nanum Myeongjo, Rounded Gothic, Nanum Pen, etc.).

6. End screen and legal notices

Edit the text of the final screen on the End screen card. Lines marked 🔒 are legal notices (source credits, ad disclosures, etc.) and can't be changed or hidden. The scene containing the end screen can't be removed either.

End screen card — Hide is disabled on 🔒 notice lines

7. Adding text · stickers · photos

  • Add → Text: a 3-second text is placed in an empty spot at the current playhead, and the input field opens right away.
  • Add → Sticker: choose from emoji and text stickers.
  • Add → Photo: upload your own photo and overlay it on the video.

Anything you add appears as a card where you can change its text and size or hide it. To fine-tune its position and timing, open it in Intermediate.

8. Scene strip and script — adding word effects

Click a scene in the scene strip to jump to it. Long-press or right-click a word in the script (or use Word effect) to open the “Effect on ‘word’” dialog.

  • Highlight — makes the word a highlighted word in the captions and turns captions on (“Captions turned on too”).
  • Sparkle — a light effect at the moment the word is spoken.
  • Count up — for number words, a counter that ticks up to the number.

To fix the caption text itself (typos, etc.), use the caption list in Intermediate.

9. Style — change the mood in one click

Click a tile on the Style tab to apply it immediately (“Applied — you can undo it”); if you don't like it, go back with ↶.

  • Color tone: Original · Warm · Cool · Film · B&W · Vivid · Pastel + intensity
  • Caption style: None · Pill · Bouncy · Karaoke · Box · Calm · One word at a time (Impact) · Three-word chunks
  • Hyper-edit intensity: Calm · Normal · Intense · Motion feel: Smooth · Lively · Bouncy · Heavy
  • Scene transitions: Smooth · Whip · Flash · Zoom · Push · Font set: Default · Bold titles · Handwriting · Classic serif
  • My styles: styles saved from Match, plus recommended styles

10. Edit by asking

Describe what you want in a sentence, and the editing assistant shows you the proposed changes first, then applies only the ones you pick.

  1. On the Edit by asking tab, click a chip (Faster · More upbeat · Bigger captions · Lower music · Stronger first 3 seconds · Change ending text · Shorten …) or type your own request (up to 300 characters). Put the exact text you want changed inside “quotation marks” for precise results.
  2. Send → Request sent → Reviewing → Preparing suggestions (about 1 minute).
  3. In the “{n} suggestions” list, check each item with ▶ View, choose Exclude/Include, then click Apply.
Edit by asking — “Lower the music a bit and make the last line bigger”

Edit by asking, Auto hyper-edit (refined plan) and Thorough review can be used up to 20 times per hour and 60 times per day combined (the remaining count is shown at the top of the ⋯ menu). The assistant won't change legal notices either.

11. Auto hyper-edit

The Auto tab adds highlights, captions and scene transitions timed to the speech, all in one go. Choose an intensity (Calm · Normal · Intense — it recommends the one that suits your video), Add captions and Auto number counters, then click Generate. First you get an instant edit plan (free, immediate). Turn on Also get a refined plan, and about a minute later the assistant sends one more, refined plan (uses 1 request).

12. Style match

Enter the URL of a YouTube video you like, or upload a video, and the editor learns only its editing rhythm and style (cut pace, motion, color tone, caption feel) and applies them to your video. No images or sound are taken from it. It runs in this order: Fetching video → Measuring cuts & motion → Measuring color & sound → Reviewing scenes → Summarizing style. From the result, choose Apply this style / Revert / Save to My styles.

Match tab — reference video URL (YouTube) or upload a video

Each analysis uses 3 editing assistant requests, and you can run it up to 3 times per hour. Reference videos can be up to 10 minutes and 300MB; the first 3 minutes are analyzed.

13. Overlay zones · view settings

Click ⚙ below the preview to choose the preview quality (Auto · Best · ½ · ¼), the overlay caution zone (Off · Default · Shorts) and guides (Rule of thirds · Grid). The red dotted lines mark where mobile app buttons and descriptions cover the video, so keep important text outside them.

⚙ View settings — overlay caution zone

14. Footage-edit videos — fixing captions inside the video

In videos cut from source footage, like the KTV highlights, the captions are burned into the video. If the In-video captions & speech bubbles card under “Whole video” says “Editable after Separate into layers”, click Open in Intermediate →, then use 💬 Separate into layers in Intermediate to lift the captions off the video before editing them (Intermediate guide).

15. Checking what to fix and making the MP4

To fix {n} at the top left shows check results, such as text overlapping an overlay zone or text that's too small. Click it to go to Export → Check, where you can use ▶ (View), Fix or Fix all on each item. When everything's ready, on the Export tab choose where you'll post (Shorts · Reels · TikTok · Naver Clip) and Replace gallery video / File only, then click Make MP4.

For details, see Make MP4 · Save · Revert.

Differences between code-motion and footage-edit videos

  • Code-motion videos: when you open one, “Finding on-screen text {p}%” appears briefly, and then the big text, badge and end screen cards appear. There's a Color card and Remove scene (you'll see a notice for scenes containing the end screen or where a voice line would be cut off).
  • Footage-edit videos: scenes are clips cut from the source. Captions inside the video can only be edited after separating them into layers, and if the source is horizontal, a Convert to Shorts card (vertical, with a blurred background above and below) appears.
